Okay, so I've been neglecting this thing, mostly because I'm a lazy twit and I'm really opposed to using it as my personal outlet for whining and personal life bullshit and so on. I don't even use facebook for that shit. I'm just not that kind of guy.
I don't produce nearly enough props or costumes to keep something like this updated regularly. .. However, I do regularly toss together various game design ideas. In fact, Game Design is a real passion of mine. One day I hope to complete and publish a pen and paper RPG of my own. I have several projects, settings, ideas, and systems in the works, but I've kind of been sitting on them and stashing them away. While I still revisit most ideas over time, just letting them gather dust is bad for the development process. So, to further help myself, I figure I could share these ideas through this blog.
Whether any of these ideas actually reach fruition and become full games or what have you is something I can't really foresee, but I think that putting these ideas out there is better than just letting them rot in my cluttered onenote files. Maybe they'll inspire someone, maybe they'll get people interested enough to urge me into finishing them.
Also, I'm trying to figure out some stuff. For some reason all of my "read more" page breaks come up as "older posts"... So.. Click Older posts to read more.
Anyways, some of my recent projects! With all of these, remember that it's really hard to fully explain any of these in a few sentences.
SYSTEMS & GAMES
Unified System - Yeah, the great pitfall of any amateur game designer that isn't just trying to make D&D work with some other setting. I started on this years ago with the intention to make an anime-friendly tabletop that didn't feel nearly as dated as BESM or as clunky as GURPS. There's a lot going on with this idea that's hard to elaborate on in a quick blurb.
Together as One - aka TAO - One of my more successful endeavors into titling a game. A game about those cheesy, toy-shilling, cartoons where a kid and his highly marketable partner-toy-monster-gadget. Meant to be somewhat more light and simple in roleplay, but crunchy and strategic in combat.
Gentlemen! - A game where your character is defined heavily by the kind of hat and mustache they have chosen. Sort of like character specializations, but more easily swapped out. There's also some mechanics in the works with a risk vs reward based on your approach to solving a problem.
TOON - This is a system that already exists, but it's old as balls and there are some issues with it that I think could be fixed up a bit. This is one of those projects that I took up out of love for the system. At the very least, it would be a much needed spit shine.
Adventure Time! - Leading in from Toon, once I have fixed up some things, I want to put together an Adventure Time module for Toon that works with Mad Lib storyhooks, and baddies built from base creatures and adjective modifiers.
SETTINGS AND OTHER SHIT
Endless Wilds - A setting that can be described as a semi-futuristic, post-apocalyptic take on D&D fantasy. In short, after centuries of developing and abusing magic, the world has become so poisoned with mana that nature itself turned on civilization and over the course of a single night, grew and overtook many cities. Some were lucky enough to survive and now they have to band together and push back against the Wilds with mana-siphoning technology and anything they can salvage from the chaotic and corrupting forests that now cover the world.
InfiniCon - A modern setting in a fictional city that is home to numerous conventions that never end. Anime, Video Game, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, LARP and other nerdy things, all year long, every year. Some come to visit to see the larger events, but the lucky ones get to live, immersed in their hobbies and passions, in costume every day, in their own personal neverland... But, of course, it's too good to be true. There are dark things happening in the city. Relationships between the different districts are shaky, people are desperate to stay, and things get violent. Little bit of Absurdist Film Noir.
Card Mages - This is more of a mechanic than anything. A potential character class or a unique ability.. But the idea is that a Card Mage is a caster character who can only cast magic through a deck of cards that they must draw and play out through a specific set of rules. Card Mages combine different cards with different conditions to create spells on the fly. This is a complex idea that needs it's own post..
Fantasy Mass Effect - A recent idea to design a campaign setting around the Mass Effect universe... Except instead of being in space, and taking place over several planets, everything would be condensed to a single, sort of generic-ish, high fantasy planet. Take your typical D&D setting, remove all the Elves, Orcs, Dwarves, and so on.. And replace them with Krogans, Turians, Salarians, and Quarians and so on. Replace planets with continents, and fudge some other stuff... and you're groovy!
And there's probably other ideas I'm missing.. but I'll give those their own posts after I start elaborating on these.
